Discovering the Beauty of Meghalaya

As soon as I landed in Guwahati, the nearest major city, I knew I was in for an adventure. I rented a car and drove to Shillong, the state capital. The road trip was scenic and breathtaking, with views of the rolling hills and lush forests. Shillong, also known as the “Scotland of the East”, was a perfect place to start my journey. The city is a mix of British colonial architecture, local markets, and street food vendors. I visited the famous Ward’s Lake, a man-made waterbody surrounded by greenery, and the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, a museum that showcases the diverse cultural heritage of Northeast India. hostels in meghalaya

Exploring the Wonders of Cherrapunjee

Next, I headed to Cherrapunjee, a small town known for its abundant rainfall and waterfalls. The journey was long and winding, but the views were worth it. I visited the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India, and the Seven Sisters Falls, a group of seven waterfalls cascading down the hills. I also hiked to the Living Root Bridges, a unique marvel of nature where tree roots are trained to form a sturdy bridge over the rivers.

Embracing the Local Culture

One of the highlights of my trip was experiencing the local culture and traditions of Meghalaya. visited a traditional Khasi village and learned about their way of life, including their traditional dress, music, and dance. I also tried the local cuisine, which is dominated by rice, meat, and bamboo shoots. I particularly enjoyed the Jadoh, a rice dish cooked with meat and spices, and the Dohkhlieh, a salad made with pork and onions. plan meghalaya work trip
